Exercise and training shouldn’t be boring. Yes, there is a need to do the little things and regularly hit movements and routines that allow for progression. However, don’t let yourself get stuck. You may want to challenge yourself! Give some of these a go and re-ignite your love of training.
3 Ways to Spice Up Your Training
- Ditch the Barbells and Dumbbells, have you ever trained without any “traditional” equipment. Try grabbing a sandbag and chucking it around. Many traditional exercises can be made 10x harder by taking away stability and making them single limb. You could try holding a kettlebell upside down to complete overhead press.
- Change up your training partner. I’m not saying you need to ditch your long time buddy in order to see results! I recently spent a couple of sessions in Richmond, London with a powerlifter, just 3 hours of training and my desire to get strong is crazy! You may not be keen of powerlifting, try yoga, pilates, weightlifting, calisthenics or swimming. A challenge may be just what you’re looking for.
- Wear a heart rate monitor. One of the most challenging sessions I have ever completed was wearing a heart rate monitor. Why? Because I couldn’t go slow enough!! The challenge was to stay below 150 beats per minute and wow it was hard. Try complete the following below 150bpm – if you go over you have to stop and wait for it to come down.
- 1 Mile Run
- 50 Burpees
- 2 Mile Static Bike
- 50 Burpees
- 2k Row
Think Outside the Box
Change is not a sin. Be creative and love what you do.
